The 2011 Senior Academic Super Bowl State Finals took place in the LOEB Playhouse in the Stewart Center on Purdue's campus. The 2010-2011 theme was Latin America. The English team members included seniors Jessica Maginity, Rachel Jervis and Chelsea Modglin (team captain). We received a bronze medal as third place. It was an exciting round. After each question was read, students had 20 seconds as a team to submit an answer on an electronic pad. Then the correct answer was given. The score board reflected the ongoing number of correct answers for each team and was updated after each question. Tension rose as student teams progressed through the 25 questions. The final question moved us into 3rd place, giving us a medal. All three of the young women strongly contributed to the overall success of the team. Despite the many demands placed on seniors throughout the school year, these students still spent some of their limited time reading and exploring the literature of other countries and cultures to prepare for this competition. Team meeting were lively and interesting as they dissected the language and discussed different subtle meanings and their social and political implications. They represented themselves and our school very well. During the 2011-2012 year, student academic teams throughout the state will focus on Colonial America.
