EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSING INFORMATION
Families of South Putnam Community Schools:
In cases of emergency or as the winter season approaches, you may be affected by school closings,
school delays or early dismissals. If you are registered on our Honeywell Instant Alert system you
will be receiving a phone call, text message, and or e-mail alert depending how you have your account
set up. Please go to the corporation website at www.sputnam.k12.in.us for further information on
Instant Alert or contact the Corporation Administration Office at 765-653-3119. In addition when
weather conditions are threatening, have your radio or TV on the channels listed below. Families

When weather conditions are already severe the evening before, announcements of school delays or
closings could be made in the evening prior to the following morning. Please listen to the stations
above for any possible announcements of school closings or delays.
One of the following plans is possible, during inclement weather:
- CLOSE school entirely: all media notified by 6:30 A.M.
- DELAY the start of school for two hours:
- Buses will run two hours late.
- Breakfast will NOT be served.
- NO A.M. Vocational School when on a two hour delay
3. DELAY the start of school for one hour:
a. Buses will run one hour late.
b. Breakfast will NOT be served.
4. DELAY the start of school, but HOLDING, for possible close of the school for the entire day.
This might be when the weather conditions causing a delay worsen. A decision to close would
be given to the above media during the delay period.
5. EARLY RELEASE: weather conditions have changed to the point that, without an early
dismissal, vehicle travel will be unsafe. Unless conditions dictate otherwise, the students will
be released two hours prior to the regular end of the school day. The media will be notified on
the times of early release.
When conditions warrant, the superintendent will be on the roads between 4:00 A.M. and 6:30 A.M.,
SO HE IS NOT AVAILABLE AT HOME OR WORK. PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE HOME OR
SCHOOL BECAUSE THERE IS NO ONE THERE WHO CAN ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS.
LISTEN TO THE MEDIA LISTED ABOVE.
These plans may be altered should the situation warrant a change.
