December 2, 2013

Dear Parents and Guardians:

In accordance with Indiana's approved Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Felixibility Waiver, each school and school district must demonstrate adequate annual progress within three areas:  Annual State ASsessment Proficiency (ISTEP + and ECA) Goals, Annual College and Career Readines (CCR) Rate Coals, and Annual Graduation Rate Goals.  Title 1 schools that do not meed expectations for particula subgroups within the three areas will be identified as Focus-Targeted schools.  Focus-Targeted schools have earned an A, B, or C, but have not met Annual Measurable Objective (AMO) proficiency gials for 2011-2012 in the traditional ESEA subgroups. (i.e., Ethnicity, Special Education,  Limited English Proficiency, and Free/Reduced Lunch).  At this time, Central Elementary has been identified as a Focus-Targeted School.

Our school was identified as focus-targeted based on not meeting AMO proficiency for the White and Free/Reduced Lunch gubgroups.  Information     about our school's performance and school/district/state comparisons can be found at www.doe.in.gov/data/.

In order to address student need, the school will develop a plan that meets the needs of all students, including the White and Free/Reduced Lunch subgroups.  This plan may include resources such as Acuity remediation, ISTEP + tutoring, DIBELS data analysis, BURST learning, and implementation   of our recently adopted, state approved reading series (Reading Street).

Parents can help by making sure your child attends school every day, volunterring in the classroom, and attending parent conferences and school functions.  It is important for parents to review our Title 1 parent policy and compacts, as well as our school improvement plan, which will be available on the South Putnam website.

South Putnam and The Indiana Department of Education are dedicated to supporting schools and providing technical assistance.  If you have any questions, or would like more information about school choice or how you can help us improvie, please call Mr. Bruce Bernhardt, Superintendent, at 765-653-3119.  We will be happy to assist you.
