On the education side, she has served as an adjunct professor (most recently at Ivy Tech and then Marian University) teaching classes including Introduction to Criminal Justice, Introduction to Sociology, Homeland Security, Juvenile Justice, and more. We welcome Josh Estridge to our South Putnam family as our new head boys basketball coach and business teacher. Josh has the experience and commitment needed to lead students in our JV/Varsity teams now while also bringing cohesiveness to the whole program (youth, middle and high school) to build it for the future. As a member of the staff in the building, he will help students gain knowledge and skills in the classroom while building relationships with students and staff. He will see our student athletes as students and have relationships with fellow teachers as colleagues. As a coach with experience in football, he sees our athletes as multi-sport athletes and will support their desire to compete across sports and succeed in the weight room. We are excited to have Josh on board.

Ginger Scot came to South Putnam this week to present a teaching award to Mrs. Tiffany Dickson on behalf of the Mary Allison Children’s Trust. Mrs. Dickson has been teaching at South Putnam since 2006. She currently teaches AP Calculus, Pre Calculus, Advanced Algebra II and AP Physics. The rigor of these courses prepares our students for their next steps after South Putnam. The AP classes and Pre Calculus are also dual credit courses through Ivy Tech earning students a total of 13 college credits. Mrs. Dickson helped establish our AP program and has been a strong advocate for increasing advanced educational opportunities at South. She is an innovative teacher utilizing the flipped classroom model, so that students can maximize their time in class getting support as they work through the difficult content. She puts in long hours offering assistance before and after school. There is also rarely a lunch hour or prep period during which students are not getting her help. Current and former students speak of her determination to help them succeed. They describe how she challenges them, encourages them and never gives up on them. Tiffany Dickson is an extraordinary teacher and an exceptional person who loves, instructs and inspires our students. We are all so proud to work with her.

Last night was a successful and beautiful spring spaghetti dinner and band and choir concert. Parents, school staff, volunteers, Mr. Champion and students worked hard to make the evening possible. As Mr. Champion explained, the gym was still a construction work zone Wednesday morning as crews finished recent work on the gym HVAC system installing new air handlers. Everyone jumped in and got to work cleaning , setting up and decorating the gym. Everything came together and Friday night middle school and high school band a choir groups performed to a large, well-fed audience. The evening serves as a fundraiser and showcase of student talent. Seniors were also recognized for the important role in the program. Megan Arnold, Caitlyn Phillips, Elena Emmerich, Joshua Marco, Jessica Gomez will all be missed.

Come check out our job boards at South Putnam. We are posting area "Jobs for Students" and "Jobs for Graduates." The job boards are part of our work toward ensuring that South Putnam students graduate with more than a diploma. We are helping them become employed, enlisted or enrolled. The job board are located in our front hallway near our Commons, so student can explore them during the school day, and parents and community members can see them during evening events.
